Singapore International Water Week awards Prize to US Water District

Singapore International Water Week is a global conference focusing on the issue of clean water and universal availability. The conference has more than doubled in attendees since its first meeting in 2008, when it was co-located with the Sustainable Cities meeting. I had the privilege of attending the first meeting and it was incredibly interesting to hear speakers from around the world talk about solutions to water quantity, quality, and distribution. The difficulty of getting clean water into the center of a megacity with a population greater than 10 million is an enormous challenge! Megacities are on the rise and are expected to be a major population source by 2050.

Each year a prize is given to a company or researcher making outstanding contributions to solving the global water crisis. This June, the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize was presented to Orange County Water District . Their successful water reuse program extends beyond their county to the states of Texas and Colorado in the United States, and has also been replicated in other countries to achieve water sustainability through water reuse. Congratulations, Orange County Water District!

HORIZON NEWS:

Horizon working with US EPA and ILI to help incorporate solid phase extraction into method 625!

Wastewater is the final frontier when it comes to methodology allowing SPE by the US EPA. Horizon Technology is working with the US EPA and Independent Laboratories Institute (ILI) to help incorporate solid phase extraction (SPE) into method 625, which contains a full suite of semivolatile analytes. One of the concerns with method 625 is that wastewater samples can be variable and some may contain large amounts of particulate matter, which may prevent passage through the solid phase extraction material. This is much less of a concern with a disk format and our recoveries in a challenging wastewater matrix were excellent view the new video showing particulated samples passing through an SPE disk! We'll keep you up-to-date on the news as the approval process continues forward.

New SmartPrep¢ç Trays

We have heard your requests! The SmartPrep Cartridge Extraction System can be more easily operated with a convenient holder for samples, especially when the sample volume is less than 100 mL. We are pleased to offer three new racks that can be used for this purpose.
